Afnan Nehela

Afnan is responsible for developing and managing a communications plan for Senator Eldridge’s legislative and policy agendas. She manages press inquiries, digital content, social media, podcasts, press events, and public relations for the office. Afnan also serves as the point person for constituent and policy work in Criminal Justice Reform, Immigration, Healthcare and Transportation.

Afnan holds a BA in Journalism & Psychology from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Prior to joining the office, she was a reporter at the Massachusetts Daily Collegian, a filmmaker assistant at CCTV, and Digital Media Intern at WGBH’s World Channel. There, she focused on stories of social justice within marginalized communities.

Alie Herbst

Alie is originally from San Diego, California, and is a recent college graduate from UCLA. While in school, she majored in Sociology and double-minored in Public Affairs and Labor Studies. Alie has always been interested in criminal justice reform, and recently completed an internship at her local Public Defender’s Office where she advocated on behalf of citizens who could not afford private counsel. Through her work with the Caucus, Alie hopes to further her understanding of the justice system from an intersectional standpoint. In the future, she plans to pursue a career that will allow her to develop evidence-based policies that remedy the root causes of mass incarceration and alleviate the harsh consequences it creates.
